An important project may involve opening a large number of windows and cluttering your entire screen. Even if you organize them, you will never have enough room on your screen. Virtual desktops are the best and cheapest solution, especially if you can't afford a second monitor. WindowsPager can extend your working space and it allows you to switch between them or move files or windows from one desktop to another, in a comfortable and elegant manner. The application is designed to be very easy to use, so you will not encounter any difficulties, even if you are a beginner.

You can start using WindowsPager without going through an installation process. After extracting its files from a 6.64 MB archive, you must locate the executable and run it. You will find two WindowsPager folders, with separate executable files, for 32 and 64-bit Windows editions.

Besides launching WindowsPager, you don't have to do anything else if you want to enable the additional desktops. While running, the application illustrates four desktops as small boxes on the task bar, next to the system tray. You can switch between desktops just by clicking the boxes. When you open a new window, it will appear in a desktop representation, with the corresponding position and proportions. If you resize or move a window, its representation will be updated in real time.

Right clicking a window's title bar will reveal options for sending the window to a different desktop. Alternatively, you may click and drag a window's representation to a different box, for the same effect. Clicking and dragging files or other items between desktops is another possibility. When you right click a window's title bar, you will also find an option for keeping the window visible at all times, regardless of which desktop you select.

Another way to keep windows visible on all desktops is to add them to an ignore list. You can find this option when you right click a desktop's representation, on the task bar. After selecting this option, you will have to move and resize a rectangle's edges around a window. You can decide to add the window to the ignore list or its corresponding application.

Pros

Virtual desktops are illustrated on the task bar, making it fast and easy to switch between environments. You can move windows, files and any other item from one desktop to another, with simple click and drag actions. The application allows you to keep windows visible on all desktops or add them to an ignore list.

Cons

You must erase certain lines of text in a .ini file, if you want to remove windows from the ignore list. WindowsPager provides you with additional working space, making it much easier to organize any windows on your screen.
